Sewer Plant Improvements
The City Council has approved an upgrade to the sewage treatment plant and authorized a March election for General Obligation bonds to finance the project. The upgrade addresses two key issues. It enables Yachats to meet current permit standards and increases plant capacity to meet growing demand from new development. During the meeting it was pointed out that the city doesn't have any other option. Failure to approve the project would result in the Dept. of Environmental Quality (DEQ) doing the work and billing the city. Use of General Obligation Bonds allows homeowners to deduct the project costs on their tax return, assuming they itemize their tax deductions.
