The Yachats Community Presbyterian Church is located in the heart of the little village of Yachats (population 660) on the beautiful Central Oregon Coast. Join us for worship each Sunday morning at 10:00 AM. We are a 'come-as-you-are' church which means more than just the way you are dressed. Whether you are just visiting, are new to the community, or have lived here for a long time, all are welcome.

Mission Statement

The Yachats Community Presbyterian church is a welcoming come-as-you-are congregation ministering to the residents and visitors of the Central Oregon Coast. We are a Christ-centered fellowship of mature, active predominately retirement age people who bring a rich source of knowledge and wide experience. As a denominationally diverse congregation, worship is central to our life and is experienced through the comfort of prayer, music and the challenge of the spoken word. We seek to provide a variety of educational programs for all ages which promote Christian discipleship and growth. Through an active tradition of love and mutual respect, we strive to be living examples of Christ’s service in our local communities and through the support of global ministries.

Church Programs

We have a traditional Sunday worship service. Large print bulletins and individual headsets are available. Each service is recorded for a CD ministry. A strong music ministry including both voice and hand bell choirs support the spoken message. As an older retired congregation, currently we do not have a church school for children. We have recently partnered with the Yachats Youth and Family Activities Program to provide periodic outreach and community service programming for local area youth. Adult education consists of Bible studies and special study programs taught on a regular basis throughout the year.

We have two women’s Circles and a men’s fellowship that meet monthly.  A monthly newsletter is sent to members and friends of the church. We sponsor several community dinners throughout the year, a parish nurse program, community Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas in Yachats with a special musical program at the Little Log Church and Museum, and a quarterly Agate Windows Concert Series where musicians from the Pacific Northwest are invited to present an afternoon program for the church and community.

The church has been instrumental in getting both an assisted living facility and a health clinic established in our community.  We also support funds for youth camperships and college scholarships. Mission giving comprises more than 15% of our annual budget.  Members have made several trips to our sister church in Cuba as well as provided monetary support for their senior meals program.

Gifts and Skills

Yachats is known as “The Gem of the Oregon Coast” and the Church is a small gem within this larger one. The sanctuary is lighted by windows of agates standing opposite a large mural of ocean, beach and wooded hills that reflect the physical beauty of the area. We have a well-equipped facility that includes several offices, meeting rooms, a fellowship hall and modern kitchen, in addition to the 225 seat sanctuary.

The generosity of members and bequests have provided musical instruments that enhance our worship and outreach: a Yamaha grand piano, a Rogers Trillium organ, and three octaves of Malmark hand bells.

Yachats is a friendly community where you are greeted at the post office and grocery store by name. The mild climate and abundant recreational activities make Yachats a vibrant place to live or visit.  Cultural events and fun local activities draw visitors from far distances.

The church draws from surrounding areas including Waldport, Tidewater, and Seal Rock attracting a large retirement population of diverse skills and experiences including ministers, medical professionals, educators, craftsmen, engineers, agriculturalists and others who share their skills and experiences. Our members are an integral part of local communities serving on numerous city boards and community positions. We faithfully support and provide leadership for humanitarian services and share our facility with various community groups.

Theological Perspectives

Through the study of God’s Word and the power of prayer, we seek a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that will lead us to love and serve others.  “And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8) We feel that it is this daily walk and personal relationship that forms the basis of our ministry.  Because of our denominational diversity and various theological perspectives, we have difficulty discussing in a wide context the controversies of the Christian faith.  Theological issues are addressed individually and in small groups.  We strive to make our faith personal and relevant to daily life, to reconcile science and scripture, to be understanding and accepting of diverse viewpoints, and to promote intellectual freedom in the pursuit of Truth.
