Lutz-Ottavio Faria, basso, made his operatic debut in the title role of Tommaso, in Un Ballo in Maschera with the legendary tenor Carlo Bergonzi, Fernando Teixeira, and Stefka Evstatieva at Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro, directed by Maestro Isaac Karabtchevsky. In 1989, he was awarded The Juilliard School of Music scholarship, which enable him to further his studies in New York City. Since his auspicious debut, the distinguished basso's career in concert and opera performances has take him around the globe, specially in Europe, Brazil, Mexico, Canada and the United States of America. Mr. Faria's repertoire extends from Seneca in (L' Incoronazione di Poppea), to Zaccaria, the High priest of the hebrews, in Verdi‘s (Nabucco). His already vast operatic portrayals of more than 30 roles includes Ramfis and King, in (Aida), Sparafucile, in (Rigoletto), Alvise, in (La Gioconda) Tommaso, in (Un Balle in Maschera), Banco, in (Macbeth), Ferrando, in (Il Trovatore), Sarastro in (The Magic Flute), the Grand Inquisitor in (Don Carlo) and Colline in (La Boheme), among others. Highlights of recent and past seasons include the role of Il Capitan in (Florencia en el Amazonas) with the Seattle Opera, Zaccaria, in (Nabucco) with the Opera Carolina, the Grand Inquisitore in (Don Carlo), Theatro Municipal de Sao Paulo, Alvise in (La Gioconda) with the X Festival de Opera do Theatro Amazonas. He reprised this role at theatro Municipal de Sao Paulo, Sarastro in (The Magic Flute) with the Palm Beach Opera, Colline in (La Boheme) with the Knoxville Opera, Nourabad in (Les Percheurs de Perles) and Alvise in (La Gioconda) at Carnegie Hall with the Opera Orchestra of New York. |
