LEON BATES has appeared in recital and in concert in the major cities throughout North America, including the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, Jordan Hall in Boston, the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, the Hollywood Bowl (with conductor James DePreist) and the Academy of Music in Philadelphia.

He performed in 1990 at Carnegie Hall, under Today's Artists Concerts' auspices, with pianist Tamás Vásáry and soprano Veronica Tyler in a program commemorating his teacher, Natalie Hinderas, and in 2000 performed a Carnegie Hall solo recital under the auspices of Four Seasons Concerts.  He has appeared as soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the National and the American Symphonies, and the symphonies of San Francisco, Atlanta, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Oregon, Symphonique de Quebec, the Basel Symphony in Switzerland and the National Symphony Orchestra of Zimbabwe in Africa.

Mr. Bates was chosen to perform at Carnegie Hall in the Steinway Foundation's Gala Celebration commemorating the building of their 500,000 th piano.  This performance is available on video.  Mr. Bates has appeared on national radio and television programs, including NBC's "Today Show" with Bryant Gumbel, and on CBS's "Sunday Morning" with Charles Kuralt and Eugenia Zukerman.  He performed as soloist with the Duke Ellington Orchestra in Rome 's Olympic Stadium before an audience of 20,000 and premiered a concerto by Adolphus Hailstork with the Virginia Symphony.  Mr. Bates records for Orion Master Recordings, Performance Records and on the Naxos label. Mr. Bates is a native of Philadelphia.
