RENÉ HEREDIA was raised with the guitar. He began his training with his father, a Gitano Puro (pure Gypsy). He remembers always having the house full of flamencos such as Carlos Montoya, Vicente Escudero, Mario Escudero, Jose Greco, Carmen Amaya, Sabicas and La Chunga and her company. Sabicas would help and teach René the secrets of Flamenco at his mother's kitchen table. His international recognition came when he was seventeen and Flamenco dancer Carmen Amaya took him to be her lead guitarist. He toured many years and concertized the major capitals of Europe and the United States with the Amaya Ballet. He was also lead guitarist for the Spanish dancer Jose Greco. While living in Paris, Mr. Heredia's album "Alborada Flamenca" was awarded the Gran Prix de Disque of France. In the United States, he performed the world premiere of his own symphony composition and Flamenco suite for Guitar and Orchestra "Alborada Gitana" which he performed with the Denver Symphony and the Denver Chamber Orchestra at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Mr. Heredia has performed solo concerts at New York 's Carnegie Recital Hall, at the Champs Elysee Theatre in Paris, Westminster Theatre in London, Teatro Barcelona, Teatro La Zarzuela and Teatro Maravilla in Madrid and at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. He recently released a CD entitled René Heredia: Mano a Mano featuring his latest works. |
