YACHATS MUSIC FESTIVAL

27 th Anniversary Festival

The Twenty-seventy Annual YACHATS MUSIC FESTIVAL will take place July 13-15 at Yachats , Oregon . The Yachats Music Festival is the summer festival of California-based Four Seasons Concerts. Music Festival concerts are scheduled at the Yachats Community Presbyterian Church, 360 West 7 th Street in Yachats.

Friday July 13 th – 8:00pm

Saturday July 14 th – 8:00pm

Sunday July 15 th – 2:00pm and 8:00pm

Highlights of each concert are:

Friday evening - 8:00 PM

On Friday night, all artists perform. After the Promenade of the Artists, the Festival opens with pianist Leon Bates playing Gershwin Preludes, followed by Louise Toppin with a song by African-American composer Margaret Bonds. Songs by Vaughan-Williams, Guastavino and Hekel Tavares are sung by Autris Paige, Gwendolyn Brown, David Robinson, Ilya Martinez and Luiz-Ottavio Faria followed by Sinding’s beautiful Suite for Two violins and piano and Parish-Alvars famous harp piece played by Isabelle Courret. The two violists team up with a piece by LeClaire, and a bassoon solo features Bryan Young. Songs by Mahler and Duparc and coupled with Dvorak’s Silent Woods on the cello and Schubert’s the Impromptu presented by Jeanne Stark-Iochmans. The traditional “Dedication” closes the evening.

 

Saturday evening - 8:00 PM

Saturday night opens with Mozart’s string quartet arrangements of his Piano Concerto, K. 415 with Leon Bates. Other Mozart works include arias from Il Re Pastore and Cosi fan tutte. Other arias include Dvorak’s Song to the Moon (Rusalka) sung by Ilya Martinez, Borodin’s Konchakovna’s Cavatina (Prince Igor) sung by Gwendolyn Brown and Verdi’s O tu Palermo (I Vespri Siciliani) sung by Luiz-Ottavio Faria.  Gounod’s Faust is represented with Mephistopheles’ Serenade and with the Trio which closes the opera.

From the Zarzuela Luisa Fernanda, David Robinson performs the beautiful De este apacible rincón. Jeanne Stark-Iochmans plays Schubert’s 3rd Impromptu while Rene Heredia’s Coco’s Rumba is followed by Sarasate’s Introduction and Tarantella with violinist Pierre D’Archambeau. The concert also includes a harp solo by Parish-Alvars.

Sunday afternoon - 2:00 PM

Sunday afternoon delights with a section of lullabies by Nickerson, Ives and Menotti and pieces by Chick Corea. Henry Cowell’s piano works contract with Krommer’s Quartet for bassoon, 2 violas and cello. Spirituals by Moses Hogan, Lena McLin, Hale Smith and Williams Grant Still and joined by a W. G. Still piece for string quartet, piano and harp entitle “Enanga.” Spanish and Neopolitan music continues the afternoon program which closes with “Scherzo & Meditation” written by violinist Pierre D’Archambeau and played by him.

Sunday evening - 8:00 PM

Schumann and Duparc songs begin the evening sung by David Robinson and Anthony Turner and songs by contemporary composer William Duckworth are aptly performed by Thomas Buckner. Jeanne Stark-Iochmans plays the beautiful “L’Ile Joyeuse” by Debussy and D’Archambeau presents Ravel’s “Piece en forme de habanera.” Puerto Rican composers Campos-Parsi and Somohano are featured by Ilya Martinez and Rafael LeBron and Leon Bates closes the evening with the thrilling “Le Banjo” by Gottschalk.

 

The Yachats Music Festival is dedicated to the memory of its founder, Dr. W. Hazaiah Williams, who began the Festival in Yachats in the summer of 1981.
